An extreme heat warning is in effect now through Tuesday night as temperatures in the Valley reach over 100 degrees. The National Weather Service says heat-related illnesses increase significantly during this period.
Alicia Ryan is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Phoenix.
“Triple digits are going to be mostly staying for the week, with the exception of Friday maybe dipping slightly below," she said.
She also says high pressure in the upper atmosphere leads to these conditions. Ryan advises people to stay in the shade, wear sunscreen and put on light clothing.
