Trails at Camelback Mountain are closed after several hikers were stung by a swarm of bees.
The Phoenix Fire Department responded around 9:15 a.m. Tuesday to reports of a hiker stung by a bee at the base of Cholla trail.
“On our way to the mountain, we're getting more calls that there were multiple hikers up the trail and towards the top of the mountain, that we're also being stung,” said Captain Mike Johnson, a spokesperson for the Phoenix Fire Department.
Johnson said eight hikers suffered minor injuries from bee stings, and one was transported to the hospital for further evaluation.
The Cholla and Echo Canyon trails will be closed until further notice until city staff can deem it safe.
A total of 8 people were evaluated, all in stable condition. One person was transported to the hospital. All crew members are safely off of the mountain. pic.twitter.com/7wFjc0qw8W
