The head of Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety says they’re teaming up with law enforcement agencies statewide to crack down on impaired driving over the Memorial Day weekend.
Director Jesse Torrez says officers are already out through Monday keeping an eye out for drivers who are under the influence.
Torrez is also urging Arizonans to plan ahead before getting behind the wheel.
”Have a designated driver use ride shares or just don't drive at all if you decide to drink or you're impaired at all with medical marijuana, regular pharmaceutical drugs, anything — impairment is impairment,” he said.
Torrez says last year, more than 11,300 drivers were stopped and 436 DUI arrests were made.
