You’re never too old to try something new. Just ask 90-year-old Bill Schwarz.
The Mesa man will run his first-ever marathon this Sunday in San Diego.
"I’ve been running for a year, preparing for this. So like I said, I’ve done a half — five half-marathons, so, you know, what’s another half?" Schwarz said.
Schwarz says he decided to increase his running regimen after completing a 60-mile hike through Spain and Portugal.
"My cardiologist is amazed with what I’m doing. It caused him to run a half-marathon himself, based on motivation from me, which is amazing."
Schwarz says he’ll have a team of friends and family running alongside him for the final stretch.
As for his plans after the race? He says he’ll probably take a nap.
