Federal prosecutors say a 33-year-old Glendale man has been indicted in a hate crime, having allegedly defaced a Phoenix synagogue.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for Arizona says last July, Kevin Pyles posted an antisemitic flyer on the front door of a Phoenix synagogue.
Prosecutors say before the incident, Pyles pleaded guilty in state court in connection with online threats made against the synagogue and the Jewish community.
The acting U.S. attorney says the indictment of Pyles is a message that deliberately damaging any house of worship won’t be tolerated.
The Anti-Defamation League counted nearly 70 antisemitic incidents in Arizona last year.
