Amid recent wildfires across northern Arizona, the state Forestry Department is enforcing a Stage 2 fire restriction, which prohibits campfires, firearm shooting and fireworks.

Spokesperson for the Forestry Department Tiffany Davila says the mandate is an effort to prevent new wildfires from starting.

“We just want to make sure that everyone is staying safe. We don’t need any new starts to add to what we are already seeing and the heavy lift that our resources are already carrying right now," Davila said.

Davila says the restrictions will impact residents in multiple counties across the state. She says the hot and dry conditions make it easier for fires to start.
