El Mirage police say a 35-year-old man died in custody over the holiday weekend.
According to the El Mirage Police Department Facebook page, officers responded on July 4 to a domestic violence call that described the man, Peter Patin Jr., as the aggressor.
When officers arrived, police say Patin’s behavior led them to shock him with a Taser so they could remove Patin from the home. Outside while handcuffed, Patin reportedly began kicking at officers.
A fire crew was called to check if Patin was alright after being shocked with a Taser. But after they arrived, Patin lost consciousness and was pronounced dead.
An outside investigation led by Peoria police is underway.
