Measles continues to spread in Arizona, and health officials are warning of several new possible public exposure sites in Maricopa County.

Measles is extremely contagious. The virus can linger in the air for two hours after an infected person coughs or sneezes. And the virus will infect 90% of unvaccinated people who come in contact with it.

A person infected with measles stayed at a Sonesta Select hotel in Chandler on July 12 and 13, according to the Maricopa County Department of Public Health. The person also went to a Fuerza Regida concert at Chase Field, Chandler Fashion Center and multiple restaurants. Additional details are listed below.

If you were at any of those locations at the same time, health officials say you should watch for measles symptoms through early August.

Symptoms of measles typically appear seven to 12 days after exposure but may take up to 21 days to appear. Symptoms include high fever, cough and a rash that is red, raised and blotchy. The rash begins after other symptoms, usually on the face at the hairline and moves down the body.

Maricopa County has reported 25 measles cases since the start of the year.

Medical experts say the MMR vaccine provides strong, lifelong protection from measles. About 96% of measles cases in Arizona since 2025 have been among unvaccinated people, according to the Arizona Department of Health Services.
