Meteorologists at the National Weather Service in Phoenix say they did call for a 10-20% chance of rain overnight and early this morning. But what’s happening now with the rumbling thunder and lightning was not totally expected.
“So, the rain we're seeing is actually a welcome sight in terms of the extent and actually how much we're seeing out there,” Phoenix meteorologist Ryan Worley said. “But it should quickly push out to the north and west over the next couple of hours, and then the rest of the day, we should be fairly dry.”
Worley says the cloud coverage might keep actual temperatures a few degrees lower, but the humidity will likely make the heat index feel a few degrees hotter. The weather service is calling for a high of 110 today.
