As the Suns begin training camp, fans will have to get used to seeing the team’s franchise player donning new digits this season.
Devin Booker, who has worn the number 1 his entire career in Phoenix, will switch to 15 to honor his father, Melvin Booker, a star college player from the ’90s.
While number 15 may be a strange sight after eleven years in the NBA, it won’t be for Booker.
“It’s not a foreign number to me,” Booker said. “Even walking around downstairs at one saying it’s gonna take some time to get used to. When I look in the mirror, the first pictures I’ve seen of me wearing it, I feel back at home. It feels like where it first started.”
Booker has also worn the number 15 as a member of two gold medal winning Team USA squads in the Olympics.
The Suns open the preseason on Monday, Oct. 5, and begin the regular season Oct. 21 in Portland.
