KJZZ reporter (senior field correspondent)
KJZZ is looking for a reporter to cover environmental issues across Arizona and the Southwest.
Based in Phoenix, the journalist will report stories in multiple formats. The reporter will write, edit, produce and deliver audio and digital stories for a statewide audience, as well as work with the KJZZ team of outstanding reporters and editors to develop multimedia storytelling experiences.
This position will gather audio in the field, conduct interviews, mix and produce audio elements for broadcast and online, and pursue both long- and short-form reporting. Experience with photo and video production is a plus.
The ideal candidate will be a beat-focused reporter and subject-matter expert who can analyze news developments, data and trends and speak and write about them with authority.
KJZZ is an award-winning, listener-supported public radio station broadcasting to the Phoenix, Arizona, metropolitan area. As the NPR member station for the region, KJZZ features a mix of local, national and global news — including BBC and American Public Media. The station also airs a mix of entertainment and discussion programs to complement the daily news coverage.

Essential functions
40% - Researches, gathers. writes, edits and delivers long form reporting
20% - Investigates breaking news developments
20% - Develops contact lists and sources and analyzes background information related to story development
10% - Publishes stories across multiple media platforms using audio equipment and multimedia gear
10% - Assists in fundraising efforts and events; performs other duties as assigned
Minimum qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in journalism, radio/television, broadcasting or directly related field and two years of professional journalism/broadcasting experience such as researching, editing, interviewing and reporting news stories.
OR
An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.
Desired Qualifications:
1. Two or more years in specialty beat reporting, preferably on water and climate issues.
2. Breaking news experience.
3. Investigative reporting experience.
4. Two or more years writing long-form content for multiple platforms.
5. One or more years of experience providing expert commentary on beat topics and/or hosting or moderating topical discussions in a public forum.
6. Deep portfolio (10+) of long-form feature reporting with a demonstrated ability to consistently produce such continent in a timely manner.
7. Excellent editing skills as demonstrated through a portfolio containing recent examples of news reporting in any media format.
