Fire has burned over 1,200 acres, 47% contained
Fire crews are still working to extinguish the Cody Fire in Oracle. The fire has burned over 1,200 acres and is 47% contained.
Several homes have been damaged as well.
Southwest Area Incident Management Team spokesman Stefan La-Sky says the weather conditions are working against crews fighting the fire.
“We’re seeing a weather pattern that we normally don’t see in this area until late June so we’re about three weeks — three to four weeks ahead of the normal weather pattern for the drying, the high winds, though that creates a little bit of anxiety about it," La-Sky said.
Evacuation orders vary in different areas. These orders can be found at InciWeb.
“We don’t do evacuations cavalierly. I mean, we make sure that there’s a real need for it. We know that we’re disrupting people’s lives and upsetting their routines. And so we don’t make that decision lightly," La-Sky said.
Blaze is 5% contained

Starr Farrell with the Coronado National Forest reports Oracle residents were obeying evacuation orders.
"People are getting out, which is what we want to see. Because really, a house is a thing, and while we have a lot of love for those things, and we don’t want to lose them, your life is the most important," Farrell said.
Farrell said over 100 firefighters were working overnight to contain the blaze with more arriving this morning.
