The 77th Tony Awards air on Sunday and will recognize the best in theater.
Among the honorees will be Colleen Jennings-Roggensack, ASU Gammage's executive director.
Jennings-Roggensack serves as Arizona's only voter for the awards. She will receive a special Tony award for her efforts in making theater more inclusive.
Jennings-Roggensack says she is happy about providing accessibility to others.
“I think what I am most proud of is opening the doors and opportunities in particular for young people of color to come into this business as presenters and producers and being able to know that this is their world," she said.
She recognized the significance of the award.
"It is a thrill of a lifetime. It also paves the way and uplifts the ability for everyone to be engaged in making theater available, accessible and created in each and every one of our communities across the country," she said.
In her role as executive director, also created the Connecting Communities initiative at ASU Gammage where the arts are experienced by various individuals, ranging from children to low-income students. She supported Broadway during the coronavirus pandemic as well.
