Planning to see the fireworks or spend some time with the family for the Fourth of July? AAA recommends preparing well ahead of time as a projected 71 million travelers will be out and about.
Popular destinations for them include Southern California beaches and cruises in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.
The increased number of travelers comes because the holiday falls during the weekday.
That also means busy return days taking place on Sunday and Monday.
Julian Paredes is spokesman for AAA.
“Some people are going to start their trip earlier. Some people are going to start their trip as early as next weekend or some people might delay it, push it back a little bit and travel through the end of next week," he said.
Paredes also said travelers will be extremely active.
“It’s gonna be really busy. You can definitely expect roads, airports, everywhere to be really busy that whole week, especially because it lands on a Thursday this year," he said.
Paredes says as a majority of the travel will be on the road and suggests people take the metro to arrive at work as early as possible.
