Advocates host mock election to engage Arizona voters with disabilities

Phoenix-based movement Vote the Spectrum hosted a mock election Tuesday in Phoenix. The event was part of an effort to register 10,000 Arizonans with disabilities before election day.

First Place AZ oversees an apartment complex in Phoenix that’s designed to house individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities. The organization launched Vote the Spectrum in 2023 to get more of the disabled community to the ballot box.

First Place AZ Founder and CEO Denise Resnik designed the mock election to help familiarize attendees and those who support them with the voting process.

“That’s what I felt in this room this afternoon; is how much Arizonans deeply care about making sure that our communities are accessible, and how our democracy is one that includes everyone,” Resnick said.

Secretary of State Adrian Fontes and Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer attended the event to talk about the importance of voting and election integrity.
