The Glendale City Council has approved the sale of 8.5 acres of city-owned land near Montebello and 91st avenues to VAI Resort for $7.5 million. The land will be used to construct a parking garage to support the new resort.
During the Tuesday evening council meeting, Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps highlighted the significant benefits of the development, focusing on job creation and long-term tax revenue for the city.
"It will create, we believe, in excess of over 1,000 jobs here in the community, and more importantly, create $32.5 million, and this is a 25-year average of new revenue coming into the city,” said Phelps.
The VAI Resort is scheduled to open in 2025. The project aims to boost local employment and contribute substantial revenue to the city's budget over the coming decades.
