Arizona reported zero fatalities on its highways during the July Fourth week in 2023. The Department of Public Safety is working diligently to replicate that success this year.
"DPS did not have any fatals on our state highway system and so we strive to meet that goal again this year," stated Sgt. Brad Cudler. He emphasized the importance of safe driving practices to ensure everyone reaches their destinations safely.
"To watch your speed, make sure they’re putting their seatbelts on. Reduce the distractions. Don’t drive impaired by drugs or alcohol. Don’t drive fatigued and if you see vehicles on the side of the road with their emergency flashing lights, please move over and give us some room to work," Cudler advised.
In addition to these tips, the DPS urges drivers to remain patient and avoid aggressive behavior. "We also want to make sure that everyone begins their trip early, brings their patience with them, and doesn’t get aggravated or aggressive with other drivers on the road," Cudler added.
The department has noted a rise in road rage incidents over the past year, with numerous calls reporting such situations. "We’ve definitely received a lot of calls over the last year with an increase of road rage situations, and so we’re trying to combat that as well," Cudler mentioned.
By following these guidelines, Arizona drivers can contribute to another safe and fatality-free Independence Day week on the roads.
