San Diego County expands rental subsidy program for older adults

Many older adults are struggling to maintain housing in big cities throughout the country. That’s especially true in places like San Diego, where rising costs are overwhelming some longtime residents.

Phoenix is one of many metro areas dealing with a shortage of affordable housing. And as the cost of living rises, older adults – especially those on fixed incomes – are struggling to stay in their homes. In San Diego, a pilot program is using rental subsidies to help seniors avoid homelessness. And the program is being expanded to include a second round of households.
