One of Arizona’s largest school districts is putting an addiction treatment provider for six southeast Valley high schools.
The governing board of Chandler Unified Schools voted Wednesday to refer students to a drug diversion program run by Community Bridges Incorporated.
Assistant Superintendent Michael De La Torre said the program is optional.
“Primarily looking at using it for reduction in suspension time. So any time you are working with suspension we’re going to be calling parents to talk about those options.”
The agreement between Chandler schools and Community Bridges expires next June.
Editor's note: This story has been updated to correct the location of the Next Step Diversion Program. The program will serve six high schools, but all classes will be held at Hamilton High School.
