With fewer movies being produced during last year’s writer’s strike, there has been a return of older classics to the big screen, from “Steel Magnolias” to old “Spider-Man” movies to “Shrek.” And here on The Show we've talked about how many movies coming out this summer are steeped in nostalgia. A new film series from the city of Peoria combines these two phenomena with an Arizona twist.
Richard Schultz is the program coordinator for the Made in Arizona film series, and he says he’s most excited for this month’s film: "Lillies of the Field"

Sidney Poitier won an Academy Award for best actor for his performance in "Lilies of the Field." He plays a traveling handyman who takes on repair projects for a group of German Roman Catholic Nuns he encounters in rural Arizona. Eventually, they ask him to build a chapel.
Each film chosen for the series — “Stagecoach,” “Lilies of the Field,” the 1976 rendition of “A Star is Born,” “Midnight Run” and “Raising Arizona” — is iconic in its own way. The screenings will take place one Saturday morning a month until October. Each film is accompanied by a discussion moderated by Jeannie Berg, a film professor at Glendale Community College.
You can see “Lilies of the Field” July 13 at 9:30 am at the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts.
