Originally from the Los Angeles area, Sarmiento graduated with an English degree from UCLA and fell in love with journalism after working at the college newspaper.
She moved to Phoenix and worked at the Arizona Republic and azcentral.com for a decade, first as a news print copy editor and then a homepage and politics digital producer.
Sarmiento has also worked in communications and social media at Arizona State University's Biodesign Institute, as well as at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication and Arizona PBS.
When Sarmiento isn't at KJZZ, she’s playing a lot of board games and creating content about them on her website and podcast.

A tornado warning was issued for parts of the north Valley early Monday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Phoenix. The warning, which was in effect until 12:45 p.m, extended to the Cave Creek, Carefree and Camp Creek areas.
