The Phoenix Suns dominated the championship game of the NBA 2K Players Tournament. The tournament, while fun, wasn’t being played in arenas. It was a video game.

Ninety years ago Tuesday, a self-taught astronomer discovered what became known as the ninth planet in the solar system — Pluto. It happened at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff.

The original Sparky is dead. Not the mascot itself, but the first person to put on the Sun Devil characectiture. His name is Dick Jacobs. He died Tuesday at the age of 91.

The death toll from high heat continues to rise in Maricopa County. The latest count shows 38 heat-related deaths so far this year. Ten happened indoors.

The Goodyear City Council has approved plans to build a new city hall, library and green space for public events. The goal is to create a destination for work and play. Goodyear is one of the state’s fastest-growing cities with more than 84,000 people. And for the past 35 years, plans to build a new city hall never materialized, until now.

A brush fire threatened the "Mystery Christmas Tree" that brings cheer to travelers along Interstate 17. It’s in the median between the north and southbound lanes about a mile north of the Sunset Point rest area.

Allegiant announced plans this week to add new flights from Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport and Tucson International.
