A disciplinary judge has temporarily suspended Apache County Attorney Michael Whiting from practicing law. The interim suspension is in effect as Whiting faces criminal charges.

In August, a grand jury indicted Whiting, his wife and the lead investigator for the Apache County Attorney’s Office, Daryl Greer, on several charges, including conflicts of interest and the misuse of public money.

They pleaded not guilty.

Whiting is currently running for reelection, although being a licensed attorney in good standing is required to hold the office.

Whiting’s suspension goes into effect beginning in November and will continue until the criminal case is resolved.
