Former Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake said she has a new job as the director of the federal Voice of America broadcasting network, but there’s more to the hiring process.

President-elect Donald Trump made the announcement Wednesday evening on social media. He wrote that Lake will ensure “American values of Freedom and Liberty are broadcast around the World FAIRLY and ACCURATELY, unlike the lies spread by the Fake News Media.”

However, there is an oversight board for Voice of America that makes decisions about network leaders - as reported by Voice of America. It was recently established by the U.S. Senate.

Lake is a former local news anchor who ran unsuccessfully for Arizona governor in 2022, then claimed without evidence that her election was stolen.

She ran with Trump’s endorsement in 2022 and in her unsuccessful U.S. Senate campaign this year, and also supported his unfounded claims of election fraud.

“I am honored that President Trump has asked me to lead the Voice of America,” Lake posted on X. “Under my leadership, the VOA will excel in its mission: chronicling America’s achievements worldwide. Thank you for putting your trust in me, President Trump. I look forward to leading the Voice of America, and I can’t wait to get started.”
