Election issues will still be an area of concern for Finchem as Arizona lawmakers convene next week

Despite Donald Trump winning the presidential election, Republican lawmakers at the state level will continue to bring in election related bills when they convene at the state Capitol next week.

One of those is GOP state Sen. Mark Finchem.

Mark Finchem was elected to represent Prescott in the state Senate in November, after losing a bid for secretary of state in 2022.

In that election, he campaigned on changes, including counting all ballots by hand.

In a letter to constituents, Finchem says he is no longer pushing that issue, but one of his proposed bills would require all machine ballot tabulators to meet Defense Department “cybersecurity standards.”

He also wants currency-grade watermarks on ballots.

Much of Finchem’s concerns are rooted in Trump’s 2020 loss to Joe Biden, after Trump made baseless claims of election fraud.
