Despite several governors across the U.S. choosing to raise their state’s flag for the inauguration of president-elect Donald Trump, Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs has decided to do the opposite and leave flags remaining at half-staff in remembrance of former President Jimmy Carter.
Gubernatorial press aide Christian Slater confirmed flag protocols will be followed.
According to that protocol from the Department of Veterans Affairs, “flags should fly at half-staff for 30 days at all federal buildings, grounds, and naval vessels throughout the United States and its territories and possessions after the death of the president or a former president.”
Trump previously wrote on Truth Social about lowered flags for his inauguration, saying “no American can be happy” about the situation.
