Group collects enough signatures to send Axon development to 2026 Scottsdale ballot

Petition gatherers collected enough signatures to place an initiative on the 2026 ballot that will ask voters whether to approve the Axon headquarters development in north Scottsdale.

But the company may not stick around long enough for the vote to go through.

In a statement from an Axon spokesperson, the company said it is considering all options regarding the referendum and relocation. The Taser company’s CEO, Rick Smith, said waiting until next November to get resolution on the development is not an option.

In November, the Scottsdale City Council approved a development to build a new corporate campus, which includes about 1,900 apartments and condos.

Opponents are concerned about the housing density and the traffic that would come from the proposal.

Scottsdale City Clerk Ben Lane confirmed the group Taxpayers Against Awful Apartment Zoning Exemptions submitted over 19,000 signatures.

Axon says the decision to abandon the project is due to a ballot referendum initiative. Last month, a pro-union political organization called Worker Power said it helped to gather enough signatures to allow voters to decide if they want to veto the development.
