Democrat Marlene Galán-Woods announced she’ll again run for Congress in CD1.
Galán-Woods was one of six Democrats who sought the party’s nomination in the district in 2024, but she lost to former state lawmaker Amish Shah — who in turn lost to Republican Congressman David Schweikert last November.
In a video statement, Galán-Woods said she’s running again because President Donald Trump’s administration is “dismantling our country.”
Schweikert has already filed a statement of interest to run for reelection.
Galán-Woods is a former reporter and former Republican. She faced criticism from other Democrats in 2024 for supporting former Republican Gov. Jan Brewer years ago, before she changed her party affiliation. Her late husband, former Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods, co-chaired Brewer’s campaign.
