A Republican congressman from Arizona has formally moved to disrobe a federal judge presiding over two lawsuits against the Trump administration.
Rep. Andy Biggs is also seeking his party’s nomination for governor against a Trump-endorsed opponent.
A resolution by Biggs aims to remove James Boasberg as chief judge of the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., for not maintaining a constitutional standard for good behavior.
Biggs accuses Boasberg of overstepping judicial authority to meddle with executive power for political gain.
The case involves Trump’s use of the Alien Enemies Act to deport Venezuelans to El Salvador. A temporary hold on the practice set by Boasberg was upheld last week, and review by the Supreme Court seems likely.
Boasberg also presides over a lawsuit stemming from military strike plans shared with a journalist over the app Signal.
