State lawmakers are nearing a final vote on a bill that would provide a legal definition for bullying in schools.

While school districts must come up with policies to prohibit harassment, intimidation and bullying, this measure would provide districts with definitions.

Republican Rep. Matt Gress spoke about the measure on the House floor.

"Right now it is a hopscotch of subjective ideas of what bullying is, and I think that this legislation will put the entire state on the same page, and I think that’s going to be good for children and families," Gress said.

Opponents to the measure worry it doesn’t provide enough protections for children in the earlier stages of bullying. The bill now awaits a final vote in the House.
