Amid deportation threats, Democratic Congressman Greg Stanton is defending international students at Arizona State University.
President Donald Trump’s administration has revoked hundreds of student visas over the past several weeks, including those held by several Arizona State University students.
Stanton said Tuesday he’s proud that so many students from around the world choose to come study at Arizona State University, which is based in his district.
He said that deporting those students is not only morally wrong, but damages the nation’s economy.
“When those students graduate with a STEM degree — science, technology, engineering, math — we should staple a green card to their diploma so they can have their careers here and advance the American economy,” Stanton said.
As of 2022, ASU reported it hosted more than 17,900 international students.
Stanton cautioned that universities are a key part of American success. He says his office is currently working on some of those students’ cases.
