Bill requiring all parts of voting machines to be made in U.S. by 2029 passes AZ Legislature

Republicans in the House and Senate passed a bill along party lines that would require every part of voting machines to be manufactured and sourced in the United States by 2029.

Some say there is nothing in the country that currently meets those requirements.

Arizona Association of Counties lobbyist Jenn Marson spoke at a legislative hearing earlier this year

"The made-in-America piece is not the challenge. It's the timing. And we just wish that there was a caveat in the bill: what if they're not ready by then?” Marson asked.

Lawmakers who opposed the measure say it will result in elections being hand-tabulated. The bill now goes to Gov. Katie Hobbs’s desk.
