A bipartisan group of lawmakers, including two from Arizona, are now members of the newly formed Congressional Wild Horse Caucus.

Republican Congressmen Juan Ciscomani and David Schweikert are co-chairs of the caucus, which is dedicated to protecting wild horses and burros across the U.S.

Ciscomani says he has been involved in protecting Arizona’s wild horses and burros even before becoming a member of Congress.

“I learned a lot more about it when I got into Congress, but even when I was with the state of Arizona, this was an issue that Governor Ducey also got very involved in. So that was the first time that I was exposed to it on the policy side of it," he said.

Ciscomani says preserving and protecting these animals is a bipartisan issue.

“It is fascinating to me to see the diversity of support that this issue and the policies here have. So I'm hoping that we can get a good number of people from all over the country and all over the political spectrum to join us," he said.

The solutions proposed by the group include habitat preservation and humane fertility control.

The launch of the caucus comes amid growing public concern over the mass helicopter roundups and the record number of wild horses and burros confined in government holding facilities.
