Four congressional Democrats from Arizona want executive branch departments to stop delaying and cutting money that’s supposed to help survivors of domestic violence.

The letter says Arizona shelters for domestic violence and other crime victims receive about 25 help requests for every bed available.

Sen. Mark Kelly, Sen. Ruben Gallego, Rep. Greg Stanton and Rep. Yassamin Ansari write that the Justice and Health and Human Services departments have caused reckless disruptions to programs and grants paid for by the legislative branch.

Arizona providers have reportedly been unable to make payroll. They were also reportedly forced to pause rent and utility payments for people in safe houses.

The lawmakers warn of long-term consequences if nothing changes.
