Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs and other state leaders gathered at a Memorial Day ceremony Monday at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.

Hobbs said our troops are the best representation of American values come to life.

“Whether it was defeating the evils of Nazi Germany, defending our allies against communism in the Korean War, or dismantling terrorist organizations in Afghanistan, the patriotism and service of every person who put on a uniform has never wavered,” she said.

Hobbs said the memory of loved ones who have died in the line of duty lasts forever.

Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes was also at the ceremony.

“The greatest strength of this great nation, and one of the reasons why we continue to be the force for freedom across the world, is our diversity of thought,” Fontes said.

“Before our constitution, we had a different form of government, and that diversity of thought that is quintessentially the American ideal allowed us to re-create ourselves anew,” he said.
