The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors voted on Tuesday to spend $30 million on pay and retention bonuses for detention officers.
Bonuses based on seniority start immediately.
All Maricopa County detention officers can earn a total of $15,000 in bonuses if they stay on the job for the next three fiscal years.
Supervisor Debbie Lesko told Sheriff Jerry Sheridan he’s doing a great job.
“I’ve heard that already you’re recruiting more detention officers at a greater pace than has been done in the past,” Lesko said.
Supervisor Steve Gallardo said the boost in detention officer compensation has been needed for a long time.
