The anti-authoritarian "No Kings" protests drew tens of thousands of people in Arizona this past weekend.

Organizers say the numbers of attendees far exceeded expectations.

Erica Connell is the state liaison for the group 50501 Arizona.

"Phoenix alone received over 5,000 signups, but that translated into about 20,000 people showing up," said Connell. "That was just the [Arizona State] Capitol."

Other communities also saw a massive turnout.

"We saw record numbers on the Tempe Bridge, about 5,000 people checked in there. In Prescott, I want to say, Prescott was about 3,000 people," said Connell.

Flagstaff also had a large turnout according to Indivisible Northern AZ. About 4,000 people were estimated to be in attendance the group said Monday morning. Protesters also mobilized in smaller communities like Show Low.

"It was quite remarkable to see the kind of turnout where in areas that we anticipated, [like] in Show Low having maybe 20, 30 protesters, had a few hundred," Connell said.

The rallies were a coast-to-coast response to President Donald Trump's massive military parade, which also coincided with his 79th birthday.
