The Tucson City Council amended the city code to ban camping in city washes and parks, adding to restrictions that already limit where unhoused people can sleep.
The ordinance changes the city code to reflect a new definition of “camping” recently upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Mayor Regina Romero said for the longest time, the council has prioritized housing first, but she has to now respond to continued concerns surrounding encampments.
