A lawsuit filed by a government watchdog group seeks to compel the Trump administration to hand over documents about its immigration enforcement changes.
The group behind the suit is American Oversight. It’s an accountability nonprofit that advocates for the release of government documents through the Freedom of Information Act, or FOIA.
FOIA requires the federal government to fully or partially disclose previously unreleased documents upon public request.
In its lawsuit, American Oversight outlines various Trump administration actions — like the lifting of an ICE memo barring immigration enforcement in churches and schools, and the deployment of the National Guard to LA.
It says it has requested documents to shed light on the internal decisions driving those changes. But those requests have gone unanswered, and they have no choice but to sue.
ICE, DHS, USCIS and CBP did not respond to requests for comment about the suit.
