Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs speaks at a pre-legislative session event on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024.
For the session, Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs now has notched 178 rejections with her veto stamp.

Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs set a new record for most bills vetoed in a single Arizona legislative session Wednesday by rejecting two partisan budget proposals.

Hobbs last set the veto record in her first year in office, when she rejected 143 bills.

This year she blew past that tally, setting a new record of 168 bills vetoed so far in 2025.

Hobbs surpassed her previous total by rejecting two budgets, approved on party lines by Legislative Republicans, each comprising over a dozen bills.

Hobbs had promised to veto both budget proposals and did so within an hour of receiving them.

"I have long made clear that both of the partisan and reckless House Republican budgets are unacceptable. They gut public safety, slash health care for Arizonans, harm businesses, fail to lower costs, and leave our Veterans out in the cold. These unserious budgets are wrong for the people of Arizona,” Hobbs said in a statement.

Most of the bills Hobbs has vetoed over the course of these last three legislative sessions were sponsored by Republicans and passed out of the Legislature on party lines without Democratic support.
