A bill introduced by Sens. Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego would rename a building in Tucson to honor the late Democratic Congressman Raúl Grijalva.
Grijalva was a native Tucsonan who spent more than 20 years at the helm of southern Arizona’s Congressional District 7. He died in March after a battle with lung cancer.
The Tucson Federal Building is right downtown and houses area branches of federal agencies like the Forest Service, IRS and Labor Department. Kelly and Gallego’s bill would rename it the Raul Grijalva Federal Building.
Identical legislation was recently introduced by a bipartisan group of Arizona lawmakers in the U.S. House, including Reps. Paul Gosar, Yassamin Ansari, Juan Ciscomani and Greg Stanton.
