After a Democratic state senator shared a post online about immigration activity outside an elementary school, some Republican lawmakers are demanding an investigation into her actions.
Republican Senate President Warren Petersen (Gilbert) said he wants a federal investigation into Sen. Analise Ortiz (Phoenix) for her posts.
And Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs weighed in. She said sharing information about immigration enforcement actions, even on social media, should not be prosecuted — though she wouldn’t do it herself.
“Look, I understand her concerns,” Hobbs said. ”And I’m not going to police her social media or what she posts, or anyone else. But we have really heightened potential for things to blow up like we saw recently in LA in particular. And I think we need to be cognizant of that.”
Ortiz said she is informing her community about ICE raids, which she claims are targeting people regardless of status, including U.S. citizens.

The legislation comes after the death of Renee Nicole Good — a 37-year-old U.S. citizen who was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis on Wednesday. The Trump administration has said the agent was acting in self-defense, though eyewitnesses and video have raised questions about that account.
