Democratic Arizona House leaders have filed an ethics complaint against a Republican representative over social media posts they call Islamophobic.
The group of lawmakers wrote to the chair of the House Ethics Committee to immediately investigate the behavior of Rep. John Gillette of Kingman.
The complaint details social media posts from Gillette that the leaders said dehumanized Muslim Arizonans. They say the posts violate chamber rules against disorderly conduct.
Oscar De Los Santos is House minority leader. He signed onto the complaint and says Gillette's language has fueled rising temperatures in the political climate.
“I don’t think any of us, no matter the color of our skin or political party, should be tolerating the kinds of hateful and bigoted, and frankly dangerous rhetoric,” De Los Santos said.
In response, Gillette posted on X that the lawmakers who filed the complaint support Hamas.
