In a new report, auditors for the Arizona Auditor General say the Arizona Regulatory Board of Physician Assistants is taking too long to resolve complaints.

The Auditor General’s report on the board says investigators took about six months to address 94% of complaints the board closed in fiscal year 2024.

The auditors cited one example where the board took more than two years to dismiss a complaint alleging that a licensee prescribed medication without a clear understanding of the medication’s appropriate use.

The audit also said that the board had not established a timeframe to handle complaints.

Raquel Rivera, executive director for the Arizona Regulatory Board of Physician Assistants, said in a response to the audit that the board has started addressing the findings and implementing the recommendations.
