Yuma is offering payment flexibility to customers of the city of Yuma affected by the ongoing federal government shutdown.
Affected customers that are concerned about making city utility payments — such as water, sewer or trash — are being offered temporary payment options upon request.
Customers are asked to call the city’s customer service division at 928-373-5076 to arrange plans. Under an arrangement, the city says accounts will remain active and no delinquent fees will be charged.
Also, Arizona is allowing furloughed federal employees in a shutdown to be considered “unemployed” and possibly eligible for unemployment insurance.
Those meeting the requirements could receive benefits up to $320 per weekly claim. Repayment may be required.
EDITOR'S NOTE: The story has been updated to clarify that Yuma's financial assistance is for city customers.
