A leaked group chat revealed shocking and racist messages posted by Young Republican leaders across the nation — including in Arizona — praising Hitler and joking about rape and gas chambers.
The Arizona Young Republicans Federation, whose chapter leader was part of the thread, issued a statement in response to the widespread condemnation that has followed.
The leaked chat reveals hundreds of slurs and comments praising Nazism. The state Republican party condemned the group chat. The Arizona Young Republicans said in a statement that they condemn “any rhetoric that COULD be interpreted as sympathetic to Nazi ideology.”
The statement went on to call the reaction a “witch hunt” and condemned the accused leaker of the messages. The group called the reaction a double standard, citing what they called “concerning rhetoric and actions on the political left.”
The statement says they’re seeking legal counsel, and suggested that the messages may have been selectively edited.
