Globe mayor worries shutdown will delay funds to flood-stricken Arizona town

Damage from flooding in Globe on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025.

More than a month after Globe was hit by catastrophic flash floods, the city’s mayor says he is worried that the government shutdown will delay any reimbursement of funds.

Mayor Al Gameros says the city has applied for both state and federal aid to pay for the cleanup. He says he expects funding from the state to come through.

As for federal help: “With the shutdown, I don’t know if they’re even reviewing any applications at this point. We don't anticipate hearing anything at least for 90-plus days, I would think,” he said.

FEMA’s website says it was last updated on Sept. 30 — which could explain why Globe was not listed in a search of disasters and other declarations.

The following note was up on the website on Monday.

"FEMA NOTICE: Due to the lapse in federal funding, this website will not be actively managed. This website was last updated on September 30, 2025, and will not be updated until after funding is enacted. As such, information on this website may not be up to date. Transactions submitted via this website might not be processed and we will not be able to respond to inquiries until after appropriations are enacted."
