The Arizona Department of Homeland Security accuses the federal government of hindering its ability to prevent and respond to terrorist attacks, securing the border and other capabilities.

This is is response to an ongoing lawsuit challenging new grant stipulations added to already-allocated funds.

Through Attorney General Kris Mayes, Arizona has joined 11 other states in suing the federal government for withholding hundreds of millions of dollars in grant funds until states meet what the lawsuit calls "unlawful" terms.

For example, for Arizona to receive this year’s more than $41 million from the Homeland Security Grant Program, it must reduce how long it takes to complete all reimbursed activities from three years to one.

The Arizona Department of Homeland Security, which allocates these funds to state, local and Tribal agencies, says these terms make it difficult to obtain the money, and risks the safety of Arizonans.
