At a Tucson town hall on Friday, Arizona Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego called for congressional Republicans to extend subsidies that help pay for insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act.
Gallego urged his Republican colleagues to show political courage in making such opposition and finding other solutions.
“I think that actually is probably a pretty easy home run no matter if you’re a Democrat or Republican. Now you could argue that maybe we could do some fixes here and there and maybe we’ll just do it for a year or two," he said.
Gallego touted the late Sen. John McCain’s vote against repealing the Affordable Care Act in 2017 as an example for present-day Republicans to follow.
Gallego rejected a recent federal funding bill as part of an effort to force a vote on the expiring insurance subsidies.
