Arizona Republican Congressman Abe Hamadeh wants Americans to report whether they have dual citizenship in the U.S. census.

Hamadeh introduced a bill called the “Make Allegiances Clear Again Act” — or MACA — which would add a question to the census about dual citizenship.

Hamadeh said in a newsletter that Americans should be “American first and only” and the census data will give the public deserved “clarity on divided allegiances.”

He did not respond to a request for comment.

Hamadeh added he supports efforts to require Americans with dual citizenship to give up their citizenship in other countries to remain Americans.

There is a separate bill in Congress, filed by Ohio GOP Sen. Bernie Moreno, which would ban dual citizenship outright.

Hamadeh and Moreno are first-generation and naturalized citizens, respectively.

Hamadeh’s parents immigrated to the United States from Syria. His father was given an order of deportation after overstaying a visa, but he was ultimately allowed to stay.

Moreno became a naturalized American citizen when he turned 18.

“It was an honor to pledge an Oath of Allegiance to the United States of America and ONLY to the United States of America. America First and America Only. It's time to end dual citizenship for good,” Moreno posted on X.
